Of course I can understand that, but as a genuine West Ham fan since childhood I hoped that he might have taken the opportunity to look beyond his career team mates and put something together truly special. McAvennie and Di Canio up front, Brooking floating around behind them, Bonds at the back alongside Rio, Ludo in goal with Parkes waiting in the wings to come on. Dicks at left back playing behind Devonshire etc etc loads of potential dream situations to see, even if they are old boys with injuries, just seeing them in the shirt on the pitch would be worth the entrance fee.

It's supposed to be a celebration of Mark Noble's career so it will be the players he played with.
Hopefully we will see the dream combination of Mido up front and Savio in behind that we were cruelly denied.

Can't help feel a little disappointed with some of the confirmed names - Cole, daily, gabbidon etc hopefully they will not be players that will be at the forefront of my mind when I think of upton park when I am an old man.
Personally I would have liked to see a living legends exhibition match - slow as it may be, with the likes of Bonds, Brooking, Devonshire, Hurst, Martin, Cottee, Dicks, Di Canio, Rio etc even if some of them only get a 5 minute run out. Would be something special to see them in the shirt again at the Boleyn. Pipe dream I suppose but would love to see some of them on the pitch together.

I thought Nolan was largely a very good captain, especially off the pitch.
On the pitch he gradually disintegrated to a shambles though in terms of footballing ability and captaincy.
That said id certainly give him a warm response if he was there,
